Dear friends in Queensland,
You will find the link for the Child Safe Guidelines for Queensland attached below.
We hope that these documents will help provide guidance on child safety and that any concerns are addressed appropriately.
The reasons these documents have been developed are:
To help to set out expectations for conduct and give us clarity about our reporting duties.
As a response to the recently updated Queensland legislation that aKects religious bodies operating in Queensland. Although we aren't an organisation, legal advice suggests that we would still fall under the category of a religious body with respect to this matter.
As a guide in helping to ensure we respond to this matter within our responsibility and capacity.
To help protect us in the ministry from doing what is incorrect or even unlawful, due to pressure from those with personal opinion or agenda.
To meet any regulatory requirements for Queensland and showing proper care, process and consideration.
With a great deal of care so that the guidelines do not conflict with the Scriptures and the teaching and example of Christ.
The guidelines have been put together over the last year, by some of our friends with experience and expertise in these matters, also lawyers from amongst us with experience in this area, researching and reviewing. Then an external law firm Irdi Legal, specialised in child safeguarding for churches, have reviewed and contributed to the documents. Moores also had input. They were well instructed on how we meet, how we as workers live and reside and go about our work. The QLD police have been very helpful also.
Consultation with the Queensland Family and Child Commission is currently in progress regarding the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024, the Child Safe Organisations framework, and the Reportable Conduct Scheme. This consultation will help further clarify our responsibilities in these areas. Once this process is finalised, the guidelines will be updated if necessary to reflect the outcome. That won’t change any of the fundamental ways we respond to it, only to whom we report it.
Greetings, Alan Mitchell.
